Junior Winter Indoor Academy Training is here.

TREVOR WILLIAMS7 Nov 2024 - 01:29

Stay in game shape & develop your skills with our amazing coaches and some awesome guests: Sam Malcolm & Maximus Performance!

Junior Winter Academy 2025 is just around the corner! There are only about 10 spots left (as of 20/Dec/2024)!

This training is for players who are registered as U14, U16 or U18 in the 2024 season only. If you are not a registered player in 2024 with Waterloo County, you will not be able to partake in the sessions.

The Junior Winter Academy will run for 13 weeks and will cost $225.00 per athlete. There is a maximum of 50 athletes allowed to register based on field space (only 20 spots left!) and coach to player ratio limitations. To register, please send $225.00 to: trevorgordonwilliams@gmail.com and include the athlete's name and their 2024 team in the notes.

***Note: this does not directly conflict with the Ontario Blues Development Academy being run at University of Guelph field house. However, it will be run on some of the same days.***

The Academy will start at the RIM Park field house (yes, actual RIM Park - 2001 University Ave E, Waterloo) on Saturday January 11th from 4-6pm and continue until Saturday, March 8th. We will then move to Bechtel Park (185 Bridge St W, Kitchener) for our last four sessions. Once we are at Bechtel Park, the times on Saturday will vary slightly based on what we could get from the City. All dates and full schedule is below.

We will focus on strength & conditioning, ball skills and decision making to build on the 2024 season and prepare for the 2025 season. We have some amazing guest coaches that will focus on sprint training and agility and another who will provide some more tactical rugby skills and information.

Maximus Performance will provide sprint and agility training on 2 days (February 1st & 8th). They will work with the athletes in one hour sessions to develop faster acceleration and create a more agile athlete. The goal is to be able to accelerate onto the ball faster, step to avoid contact and then accelerate away to open space. www.maximusperformance.ca

Sam Malcolm (www.betweentheposts.co) is from the small town of Whanganui, New Zealand where he was born into the game of rugby. He has played for the Super Rugby Hurricanes U20s, the New Zealand U20 squad and most recently for the Toronto Arrows. He will run four of our sessions and focus on the following:
Ball skills - Passing Accuracy - Decision Making
Kicking - Counter Attack
Tackling & Defensive work

If you have any questions, please let me know. To register, please send $225.00 to: trevorgordonwilliams@gmail.com and include the athlete's name and their 2024 team in the notes. A reminder that there are only 50 spots available and it is on a first come first served basis for players registered with Waterloo County in 2024 at U14, U16 or U18.

If your athlete was registered in U12 for Waterloo County in 2024, one option is the Upright Rugby program that is being run at the University of Guelph field house. Their Academy starts on November 9th and is an 8 week program. It will start up again in the New Year and run for 8 more weeks. Go to their website and scroll down to Jr Gryphons Academy.
The dates they are showing on the website are incorrect but you will get correct dates if you click through the Registration link. If you have questions, there is a contact box at the bottom of the website. www.uprightrugby.ca
